1 Cor. 13, 1 John 4:18

Love is patient, love is kind,

Fear has but itself to mind.

Love is generous, humble, low,

Fear must clutch and thrust below.

Love is gracious, casts out self,

But fear drinks from an empty well.

Hot wrath lives afar from love,

Fear makes a wolf of any dove.

Love keeps no account of sins,

But debtors lists are fear’s fast friends.

Love’s great joy is truth, not power,

Blind fear cannot leave terror’s tower.

Love gathers souls, but fear divides.

Love trusts and hopes, fear runs and hides.

God’s love will stand when all else fails,

Fear has no harbor for his sail.

Love never stumbles, never falls,

Men flee fear’s pits, to find its walls.

Love clasps its hands with hope and faith,

Fear leaves but sorrow in its wake.

Love is the height of all God’s grace,

And casts out fear, to seek His face.
